CODE University has numerous clubs, where interested students, staff and professors come together to enjoy their free time and hobbies.

In this post we present you the sport clubs that are active as of Spring 2023, what they do and how to join them.

As a general rule: all the clubs are open to any skill-level. Don’t be shy, they are always happy about new people! If you’re a Flinta person and are unsure about your skill-level, there’s a Flinta-contact person for every club who got you covered.

Some sensitive information like contact persons are only visible to logged-in users, so make sure to log in if you’re a CODE student.

Climbing/Bouldering Club

The Climbing/Bouldering club meets every third Thursday of the month at 7PM.
Most of the boulder facilities in Berlin are part of the Urban Sports Membership. If you don’t have such a membership, CODE covers the costs for your entrance.
Sometimes climbers will just write into the channel when they go climbing so that others can join.
Favourite locations of CODE climbers include Boulderklub Kreuzberg and “Der kegel Kletterturm”.

In case you have never tried bouldering before, don’t worry. The beauty about this sport is that different levels can climb next to each other and figuring out a climbing route as well as asking for and giving tips is the most normal thing to do in a climbing hall. Give it a try!

When: Every third Thursday of the month at 7PM. Keep an eye on our calendar.

Where: The club meets at different gyms, announcement is made on the slack-channel.

Volleyball Club

The Volleyball club meets usually every Tuesday evening around 8:30 or 9 PM, so that working people can join as well. No matter what time of the year it is, the club plays beach volleyball. Because, well, this is Berlin and there are indoor beach volleyball-places.
Usually a day or two in advance someone asks on the volleyball-Slack-channel, who wants to join the game. Depending on the number of people, who want to join, a court is booked. You don’t have to pay anything, just bring your sports clothes.
While the weekly sessions are open to any skill-level, it’s also possible to join the CODE’s team in the Berlin Start-Up league if you’re a committed player. To join that team, just come to the Tuesday sessions and say that you want to join.
There you play against teams from Start Ups like HelloFresh and Nordsecurity as well as not-so-much-a-start-up companies like Amazon.

Soccer Club

Similar to the volleyball club, CODE has a mixed-gender 5vs5 soccer-team playing in the Startup-league. The tournaments happen every Wednesday on an outdoor soccer field with each match being 45 minutes long. We play in the A league and the B league, but since there are not too many active players there is currently one team playing in both teams. Let’s change that! It’s possible to switch players as often as we want, so the more players the more breaks.

In case you enjoy watching soccer, there’s good news for you as well! Playground is a perfect spot to have some beers together and socialise once its a bit warmer and to cheer for your university team. Fans are more than welcome!

Also, if there are enough players, it’s possible to organise a regular training.

Requirements: You enjoy chasing and kicking a ball. That’s it. You don’t need to be a Ronaldo for this 😉

Inactive Clubs

There are also some sport clubs which are officially inactive. But what is inactive can become active, sometimes all it needs is some inspiration. Join the channels if you’re interested and breath some life into these clubs:

Spikeball

Join the channel #sport_spikeball.

Martial Art

Join the channel #sport_martial_art.

Running

While this one is listed as inactive, people have been posting in this channel in autumn, so it seems like a good place to find a running buddy.
